The iPhone
As you probably are aware, Apple's iPhone comes out tomorrow. One of my co-workers is so determined to get one that we actually went and scouted out the local Apple store during our lunch hour yesterday. It was somewhat helpful, I for one didn't even know we had an Apple Store in SLC. And I guess the last time my co-worker saw it, it was in a little kiosk. So he was unsure as to whether he should go to one of the AT&T/Cingular stores, or to the Apple Store. After seeing the new, larger location he decided to definitely go to the Apple Store.
Other than that it wasn't that productive. Employees at both places claimed that other than the fact that it was being released tomorrow at 6:00 pm that beyond that the didn't know anything. That's not entirely true, there were a couple of instances where we got answers only to find out that the answer was directly contradicted by the FAQ on their website (i.e. the AT&T employee said it had to be activated at the store, the FAQ says it's activated through itunes). If I had greater... liquidity. I'd probably be right there with him tomorrow afternoon waiting in line, but I can't really see spending $600 on a cell phone.
They do look pretty cool, and I have a feeling I'm going to need a new cell phone in the next few months, but despite this normally lethal confluence of factors I'm going to pass. Perhaps I can hold it out as an eventual reward when/if I do something spectacular (spectacularly profitable probably...)
Spectacularly bad is also an option...

Enjoy the position of not being a cutting-edge buyer when all the early problems flare up. As much as I adore anything not M$ they are probably overselling the service they can actually back-up and will cut prices once they've gutted the discretionary income wallets.
